Harvest season in Skåne

☕ Fika Find
October calls for cosy afternoons indoors, catching up with friends over a warm coffee and something sweet. That's the beauty of a classic Swedish fika, and Örum Bakery is one of my favourite places in Malmö to do just that. The welcoming atmosphere, friendly staff and, above all, the incredible pastries make it the kind of place you'll want to return to again and again. Their cardamom buns are a MUST-try!

🍻 Skål!
Looking for somewhere to settle in with a good beer as the weather gets colder? Look no further than Purgatorio in Lund. Tucked away in an old beer cellar, it has an excellent selection of beers and great food to match. It's a fantastic spot to catch up with friends or wind down after work. When October calls for a cosy evening indoors, this is a place worth checking out.

Tip: Try any of the local beers on tap, when in Rome, or Lund I guess!

🚆 Take the Train
This month's train adventure takes us to the heart of Skåne, to the small town of Höör. While the town itself is worth a wander, some of the area's real highlights lie just beyond the centre. One of my favourites is Bosjökloster, a former medieval monestary that later became a manor house. The grounds are beautiful, with peaceful gardens and animals to spot along the way. Visit in October, when the autumn colours start to take over, and you'll find a lovely excuse to get out of the city for a day.

🏛️ History Corner
This month's History Corner takes us to one of Malmö's oldest historic corners: Jörgen Kock's House. Built in the mid-16th century for Jörgen Kock, the mayor of Malmö at the time, it's one of the city's most fascinating surviving historic buildings. But Kock was more than just a mayor. He also served as Mint Master for the Danish Crown and played an important role during the turbulent period of the Protestant Reformation. The building is currently undergoing interior renovations, so it'll be interesting to see what's been done to this iconic piece of Malmö's history.

🍎 Guided Detour
You can't talk about Skåne in October without talking about apples, and Kivik is the place to start. Located in eastern Skåne, this small coastal town sits at the heart of the region's apple-growing country. Autumn is harvest season, with local shops and producers offering everything from fresh apples, juice, cider and other seasonal treats. It's a wonderful time to explore the area and get a taste of Skåne's harvest.

Tip: Getting to Kivik by public transport takes a little more planning, but if you have access to a car, it's well worth the trip. Take your time, explore the surrounding countryside and enjoy one of the most delicious sides of autumn in Skåne.
