Early Autumn in Skåne

No visit to Lund is complete without a stop at Broder Jakobs Stenugnsbageri. This family-run bakery is a favourite for locals, with exceptional sourdough bread, buttery pastries and some of the best cinnamon and cardamom buns in Skåne. September also marks the return of Lund's students, so don't be surprised if there's a queue. It's the perfect place to slow down with a warm coffee and embrace one of Sweden's favourite traditions.
Tip: If the sun is still shining, don't leave just yet. Right next door you'll find Syster Jakobs Glassbar, where homemade ice cream is always in season. Grab a scoop and enjoy one last taste of summer.

Julie Vinbar is one of those places that reminds me why I love living in Malmö. The atmosphere is warm without any of that ‘wine bar’ pretentiousness. The staff genuinely love talking about wine, and there's always something new to discover. They also have an amazing selection of cheeses from around the world to take home. Whether you're a wine enthusiast or simply looking for somewhere to unwind after a day of exploring, it’s the sort of place you'll be recommending to someone else.
🚆 Take the Train
One of my favourite things about living in Skåne is the transit. The extensive bus and train network can bring you almost anywhere within a few hours. This month, I'm sending you to Ystad. A charming coastal town with colourful half-timbered houses, cobbled streets and a picturesque harbour. September is an ideal time to visit this charming town. The town is calmer after a busy summer season, but cafés, restaurants and shops are still open for business. Spend a few hours wandering the historic centre before finishing your visit with dinner overlooking the Baltic Sea.
🏛️ History Corner
Few places capture the mystery of Skåne quite like Ales Stenar. Perched high above the Baltic Sea near Kåseberga, this remarkable stone monument has stood here for over 1,400 years and remains one of Sweden's greatest archaeological mysteries. Was it a Viking memorial? A ceremonial site? Or perhaps an ancient astronomical calendar? No one knows for certain. September is a great time to visit. The summer crowds have left and the dramatic coastal scenery feels even more peaceful. Standing among the stones with the sea stretching out below, it's easy to understand why this place is so special.
Tip: Don’t leave without having lunch at Kåseberga Fisk. You won’t regret ordering the fish and chips.
⭐️ Guided Detour
Sometimes the best way to experience a region is to leave the cities behind and get out into nature. Söderåsen National Park is one of my favourite places to do that. This ancient forest with its dramatic valleys and endless walking trails, feels worlds away from the streets of Malmö. By the end of September, the trees have changed and the autumn colours are in full swing, making it one of the most beautiful times to explore. Whether you're looking for a short walk to a scenic viewpoint or a full day immersed in nature, it's the perfect reminder that some of Skåne's greatest experiences lie beyond its cities and the coast.
It's also where the fairies live…
