Lund

Medieval charm and student traditions.

Why visit Lund?

Lund is one of the oldest cities in Scandinavia, but thanks to its university, it also feels like one of the youngest. Founded more than 1,000 years ago, this compact city is packed with history, culture and character, all within walking distance.

The magnificent Lund Cathedral dominates the skyline, but some of my favourite experiences here are much simpler: wandering through cobbled streets, discovering hidden courtyards, relaxing in a café or watching student life unfold around the city. Lund is the kind of place that encourages you to slow down and take your time.

Lund at a glance

⛪️ The Cathedral - For almost 1,000 years, Lund Cathedral has stood at the heart of the city. One of Scandinavia's most important Romanesque churches, it remains a place of worship, a historical landmark and the symbol of Lund itself.

🎓 University life - This university has shaped Lund for centuries and gives the city a unique energy. Students from across Sweden and the world, help create a lively atmosphere that balances perfectly with Lund's historic character. Seeing the graduation celebrations every spring is a unique experience.

🚶 Walkability - Lund is best explored on foot. The compact city centre makes it easy to wander between historic landmarks, cafés, parks and hidden corners without ever feeling rushed.

☕ Fika - If there is a Swedish word that captures Lund, it might be Fika. Stopping to take a break, usually to have a coffee and a pastry and ejoy the company of whoever you are with, be it friends colleagues or just yourself. The city is full of quiet cafés, cobbled streets and peaceful corners that encourage people to slow down and enjoy the moment.

📚 Open-air History - One of my favourite places in Lund, Kulturen brings centuries of Southern Swedish history together in one place. Wander through historic homes, gardens and workshops to experience how people lived across different periods of Skåne's past.
