Introducing | Guided This Month
Hej! (that’s how we say hello in Sweden)
One of the best things about living in the Skåne region of Sweden is that there's always something new to discover. It might be a hidden café tucked down a side street, a restaurant that recently opened, a fascinating piece of history or a train journey that makes you wonder why more people don't know about it.
Guided This Month is my way of sharing those discoveries with you.
Every month, I'll choose five recommendations from across Skåne that I think are genuinely worth your time. Some will be well-known local favourites, while others are the kind of places you only stumble across after living here for a while.
The goal isn't to create another "Top 10 Things to Do" list. It's to help you experience this region a little more like a local, one coffee, train ride, and story at a time.
☕️ Fika Find
Fika (pronounced fee-ka) is much more than just the Swedish word for ‘coffee break’. It’s a daily ritual of slowing down, enjoying a coffee and something sweet, and taking time to connect with friends, colleagues or simply yourself. Each month I’ll highlight a café, bakery, or coffee spot that’s worth going out of your way for to enjoy a fika.
🍷 Skål!
Skål (pronounced sk-ohl) is the Scandinavian way of saying “cheers,” but it’s not just about what’s in your glass. Skåne is a foodies paradise. From local specialties to the international flavours that have arrived more recently, it is easy to find amazing food across the region. Every month I’ll showcase a food or drink spot that captures the region’s culinary spirit and deserve a spot on your must-visit list.
🚊 Take the Train
Let me begin by stating that I am a train nerd. Now that that’s out of the way, one of the best things about this region in my opinion is how easy it is to explore without a car. From coastal towns and medieval cities to hidden corners of the countryside, a transit pass is all you need. This section will highlight destinations and journeys that are perfect for discovering by train.
🏛️ History Corner
The history of this region goes back thousands of years and there are many stories to tell. From Viking settlements and medieval cathedrals to local legends and surprising historical events, this category shines a light on the people, places and moments that shaped this unique region throughout its history.
⭐️ Guided Detour
Some of the best experiences happen when you least expect it and when you leave the main tourist trail behind. Each month I’ll pull back the curtain on hidden gems, natural escapes and lesser-known places that are truly rewarding to explore.
Some of these recommendations will be well-known local favourites, while others are places that are easy to miss if you don't know where to look. Together, they reflect the things I find most interesting about life in the Skåne region. Guided This Month will become a collection of places, stories and experiences that have genuinely caught my attention. My hope is that they help you explore a little deeper, discover somewhere new, or simply see this part of Scandinavia from a different perspective.
